One person is identified as the head of household in each household. Usually this person is the owner or the person assigned in the household's lease. A family household is one with persons related to the head of household by birth, adoption or marriage. Based on family composition and the presence of children under 18 in the household, the type of family with which the children reside in the household is determined. Single-parent families with no husband or wife present in the household and children 18 years old are identified as single-parent families with children. This estimate includes children living in subfamilies within the same household.
